Next in our public discussion series–The Therapist Talks: Psychoanalysts Join the Conversation with Today’s World–Columbia Psychoanalytic presents a roundtable discussion about three bold journeys taken by daughters who have written memoirs of their fathers in search of a deepened understanding. Two are therapists: the daughters of the renowned writers Norman Mailer and Bernard Malamud. They will talk with moderator Mary Gordon, the award winning novelist and author of “Shadow Man, A Daughter’s Search for her Father” a memoir about her own father who died when she was just seven.
Mary Gordon • Moderator • Author of four bestselling novels, Final Payments, The Company of Women,Men and Angels, and The Other Side. Her latest novel is entitled Payback. Gordon has been a longtime professor of English at Barnard College.
Susan Mailer • Psychoanalyst, teacher, supervisor, writer; co-founder, Psychoanalytic Association of Santiago (Chile); Author of In Another Place, With and Without My Father Norman Mailer.
Janna Malamud Smith • Writer, psychotherapist and teacher, author of four books including My Father Is a Book. Widely published essayist.
